(Sodus, N.Y.) - A teacher in the Sodus district will change gender this school year.

The district has sent a letter to parents explaining its position.

The letter from Superintendent Susan Kay Salvaggio says "It is critical that the school community understand the district's legal responsibility to protect the civil rights of every employee."
"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken." Oscar Wilde

That surprises me a great deal. Progress!

Hopefully it's not gonna be too hard on him/her. Not harder than it has to be.

Hopefully it won't be for her.  ;)

Looks like that Superintendent knows a great teacher, and wants to keep her teaching! ;)

http://rochesterhomepage.net/content/fulltext/?cid=29041  I am sure there will be a larger story posted a little later on tonight.

I have been told that the son of a faculty member (a senior at the school) heard the local conservative radio talkshow host rant and rave about this.  He called in to say that they had the story completely wrong and the proclaimed "facts" were seriously in error.

I am surprised that WHEC TV-10 hasn't posted a story yet.  Probably soon.

The first day of classes should be interesting.  Hoist the colours!

Donna Rose blogged about you, Chaunte... :icon_joy:

QuoteApparently, a teacher at a local high school will be transitioning so the school sent a note to parents.  I heard about it on the news while driving to work this morning:

Just as a follow up, there was not a single news camera in sight when school started.  Not a one!  After what happened in Batavia, I would have bet substantial money that there would have been at least one station reporting on me and the start of school.  (Now you know why I don't play the lottery!)

After listening to the comments made by people around town, this is not an major issue.

The nation is changing.  Town by town.  State by state.  Person by person.

There is cause to hope for all of us.
