Cynicism is what good journalists get paid for. So I approached Denver with my arms folded tightly against my chest, with a show-me attitude. Could a relatively young African-American man, who was unknown just a few years ago, really wrestle the power from the powers-that-be in Washington? Is a lot of hyperbole and preacher-like oration enough to deliver the goods and change America?

Well, something was changing. I had covered out Congressman Barney Frank for years, but in Denver I noticed something different in how people perceived him. He has transcended the screwy liberal congressman label people have tried to throw on him, and has become a symbol of the new order. "Been in politics for four decades, and now I'm an overnight sensation," he explained to me with some confusion.
