So. I love singing. I'm not too bad actually. But due to the fact that my voice is low for a girl's and high for a boy's, I have trouble with most songs. Getting on T, would that lower my range with singing, and not just speaking tone?

Cause if it does, I'll be so damn happy, I'll bounce up and down. I want so badly to sing in a lower octave, but I can only hit half of the notes.

machotka83 probably has the best one I've seen. Hes got a few songs up and hes been singing through transition so it probably makes it easier. jbastiancole is pretty decent too.

It took about eight months to be able to sing again.  Taking voice lessons while on testosterone will probably help..

Singing has been an integral part of my identity and in fact my need to sing like other guys was one of the clues that i needed to do something.... so thanks for bringing this up Ciar. I hope I can get voice lessons via medical ins.

Meh. I don't sing "as a man," as one may say. I just sing. It doesn't really "make" or "break" my identity. Even if T makes my voice hideous I will continue to sing in my free time. So as long as we're not neighbors, you guys should be okay.

How do you think that insurance is going to cover voice lessons?

It's not. Not sure why anyone would need voice lessons though, I figured you could just do it yourself, find your style, push your range, seems pretty simple.

I have noticed that the girlier sort of notes I cant do anymore, as My voice is breaking..

I went from alto to bass, but there were a few months there were my singing range was about an octave. Couldn't hit the higher notes at all. After two years of working on it, the higher notes are now pretty stable and I'm happy with my range.

Quality-wise, I sing in an auditioned jazz group and I've made the auditions every year for three years now. But there are a lot fewer decent male singers. I wouldn't have made the auditions pre-transition.

If you have a pathology, maybe, but that's hard to get.  And then the plan has to cover it, and most do not.

Why not just regular vocal lessons for singing? I don't think it'd really be that costly.

I only had it in school so I don't know about the actual costs, but I'd imagine its not too much.

It would pose a problem pre-T in that sense.

I did know some girls in my vocal/choir class that would take the tenor parts because they could go that low and there were a lack of boys.

i sing tenor and im pre-T

Lots of girls sing tenor.
