Tattoos as a symbol of your transition

Different for different people I think.
Every day we pass people, do we see them or the mask they wear?
If you live under a mask long enough, does it eventually break or wear down?  Does it become part you?  Maybe alone, they are truly themselves?  Or maybe they have forgotten or buried themselves so long, they forget they are not a mask?

Yes, no, maybe so...

I will be getting some sort of ink. Something small and meaningful. The symbol of Mars, maybe? I don't know. But I have a few tattoo ideas in mind that I might explore in my 20's and 30's. I'm definitely not getting one any time soon.

Whatever you do, just don't get it on your tits. It ruins them for me. And go with something small. You don't want the tattoo to be ALL anyone sees when you're naked.

LOL why not :)    and wouldn't be over entire torso, plus I'd probably be keeping price in mind as well.  Shrugs

I would think after transition you would want to forget transition.

Move on afterwards, yes.  But never forget the struggle I had to endure.

Guys with tats can be cool.  Women with a small one are cool.  Women with a lot are ugly.  IMHO.

My Laser tech said she can remove my tattoo.  Thank God.

I've wanted for a long time to have a long tattoo across the shoulders on my back. I want it to say something somewhat meaningful to me. Originally I wanted the word "Imagine," from John Lennon's song, but I realized the word could be seen somewhat pervertedly, and no one else would really get it. Unless I said Imagine John Lennon, which is too long and I don't want anyone's name on my body... :/ It's the concept I want.

*nods* I understand that thought. For me though I want symbolism.

It will be interesting to see if I ever do anything, heh.

I love tattoos currently have two small ones and am hoping to get some money in the near future to get some more.. One on my wrist is quite feminie (small star as first tattoo wanted to know if it hurt or not) so I will probably get something added to that in the near future!

I found this symbol somewhere... cant remember and its the TG symbol and I really love the shape I will probably just get the shape on my ankle or on the back of my elbow...

ooo I so love it!

I had the idea of getting a young Jerry Garcia on a breast before HRT, then when I grew he'd either get fat (and remain true to life) or go psychedelic (and remain true to life).

One day I'd like to get Frank Zappa on my arm just below the shoulder (under the sleeve). To stay on topic it could be argued to be a symbol of transition in that I want to be my own person and not care what society thinks about that... but really it's a nod to my idol.

I got this wonderful piece done to cover up two of my fairly masculine tattoos:

I'm planning to have tattoos done to cover the surgery scars after top surgery.  I'm actually thinking of having an entire vest done.  We'll see.

Vexing - That's very pretty.

An FTM friend of mine went to a tattoo artist to do exactly the same thing.
The artist said he was reluctant to do it without waiting two years for the scar tissue to heal - because he had seen from experience that the scar tissue could rip during the needlework.
I'm sure the artist you choose will give you the right advice at the time - after all, chest scars are not very usual, so the healing time may vary :)

Yes, I had read that a few places as well.  But I'm in no hurry.  It will take me a while to save up the money for a tattoo after blowing all my savings on surgery anyway.  ;D

I don't have any tat.s as of yet. But I do have an assortment of scares. So I was thinking to get some tat.s to cover some of that. Some scares remind me of a butterfly and a flower so I was thinking to go with that. The other scares look kinda like lightening. Butterflies, Flowers and lightening sounds like a good combo  :icon_chick:

I have a butterfly also. It is a symbol of metamorphosis. Maybe I'll get another larger one.

Miniar

I have three tatoos and have a full back, full shoulder and wrists planned for the next pieces of work.
The full back one is personal, connected to my transition but also a constant "note to self" to let myself "exist" even if it's maybe not the "myself" that others "think" I should have.

transdyke

I have 9 tattoos already and I plan to get a ton more (full sleeves, back piece, chest piece) and a lot of them have to do with transition
+ I'm a butchdyke so I wear the women-with-lots-of-tats-are-ugly thing like a badge of honour :P

  • I'm planning on getting the male symbol in pink around one elbow (with an exclamation sign in the middle of it) and the female symbol in blue around the other elbow (with the classic fist in the middle of it).
  • I'm working on one arm that is going to be all pink and the other all blue with purple filling in the negative space
  • I'm going to get a chameleon on my pubic region after SRS
  • I'm going to get a simone de beauvoir quote across my upper back that says "The body is not a thing, it is a situation: it is our grasp on the world and our sketch of our project"
  • When I've gotten my sleeves finished I'm going to get the word FEMINIST on the outside of my knuckles and TRANSEXUAL on the inside of my knuckles.(I'll have to include the thumbs for the latter)

I think that's all I can think of now.

xoxo
