One of the ongoing arguments in the transgender community that's guaranteed to generate heated debate one way or the other is the stealth vs out one.

Up until the early 90's, as part of the Standards of Care, HBIGDA (the Harry Benjamin International Gender Dysphoria Association now called WPATH (the World Professional Association for Transgender Health) used to require that after surgery, a transgender person go stealth and fade into the background never to emerge.

Well, to put it bluntly...in order for someone to be stealth, she/he has to be able to be stealth; otherwise, it isn't going to work, and yes, in that case, it will be a mistake, indeed.  Plain and simple!

There are reasons for and against. Some people really ought to keep stealth for their own safety. Some of us more ...ahem... activist types... especially the well-spoken, might consider Living Out because if they can increase "presence" in society, it will be less dangerous for the rest.

I'm starting my weight lifting tonight actually... ;)

& truth be told too. some of us have built careers, families, a reputation, a new life in our true gender, why would i want to compromise my stability by being "out and proud"? no thanks!

exactly, thats why i call for individual choice. Me personally, I have done political and advocacy work, I tend to be well-spoken if prepared... and am always going to be along the fringe. So if I'm decent looking I may do some of that Living Out along with other things.
