I've started wearing a beanie on my head to cover up my "woman" like hair. The whole, I'm black therefore my hair should not be straightened unless I'm a girl....

So I look like my avatar (minus the goatee) as I'm in class today. I was headed to the bathroom, and my class knows me as a "girl" so I was afraid someone would see me if I went to the men's bathroom, so I was headed to the women's but so were these two girls from somewhere else down the hall.

I stopped cause I got nervous and started turning around to head to a different bathroom somewhere else, in a different building.... Cause I wasn't sure if I looked like a guy or a girl to them. But I paused around the corner trying to make up my mind, and I overheard them as they went in.

Girl 1: Omg that scared the sh%t out of me!! I thought that was a guy!

So I'm assuming they got scared cause they thought I was going in the bathroom with them though I didn't make it within 5 feet of the door.

All I know is I definitely heard someone thought I was a guy and I got super happy :)

What a pick me up!  My beanie method works!

I used to know a guy back in art college who used to straighten his hair... he was african american. Everyday he used to come in with a different hair-do and when we all went on that trip to amsterdam he was always holding everyone up spending too long with his straightners.

There's no shame in straightening your hair! Even i own a pair of straightners and i know plenty of other guys that do too.

Well you look really masculine in your avatar. Maybe hoodies work too? :)

I think it grew out actually. When I feel my hair....the hair growth closest to my scalp is very curly. It's just that the hair on top, the visible hair, is dead. And straightened via chemicals. Therefore it can never lose its straightened shape. I think that's what happened...My living hair is definitely curly though, if I cut it right now there'd probably be very little straightened hair left.

Dude I live way down in South Florida. You don't have to wait til winter to wear beanies! If I did, I would never get to wear mine, cause there is NO SUCH THING as winter here haha!!

Lol......I've never met a guy who straightens his hair (who is black). In fact, I don't want to BE that one black guy who straightens his hair on this campus. I've had black lunch ladies here debating on how you can tell that I'm a "girl."  "It's because of her hair, see? Guys don't do that."

I like being unique but I've always thought straightening was a pain in the arse. The more I think about it, the less I mind getting ready for that big chop off that will give me a more masculine african-american haircut.

THE GOOD NEWS IS......

I don't know if you guys saw my last vlog but I mentioned the whole thing about it not being uncommon for black women to have straightened, short hair. A lot of people have agreed that it's my hair that makes me look like a girl.

See:

So when it comes time for me to start doing RLE I want to go to a barbar shop first.

This is my current favorite, I might want to cut my hair like this when the time comes  ;D

He has a big forehead and pulls it off, I hope I will too :D (I have a huge forehead).
