One sixth of the world's population does not have access to clean drinking water. More than 2 million people, most of them children, die each year from water-borne diseases.

Water-related problems aren't restricted to the developing world. A harmful pesticide, banned by many European countries, remains widely used in the United States, where it runs into rivers and streams.

And one expert estimates California's water supply will run out in 20 years.

These sobering statistics come from "FLOW," a new documentary film about the world's dwindling water supply. The filmmakers and their sources argue a combination of factors, including drought and skyrocketing demand, have created a looming global crisis that threatens the long-term survival of the human race.

Just add it on top of the ever-growing global crisis list. We are sure to be doomed in 50 years.

Only Westerners (mostly Americans) are convinced that the end of the world is coming.  Ask the Chinese what they think of their prospects, and the answer is "never better".

Here in America, we're just indulging in endless guilt, self-recrimination, and existential angst.  The rest of the world is out there progressing.  We're squandering the saved capital of generations because we no longer understand where wealth comes from, while China, India, Iran, Vietnam, the UAE, and other nations are producing, saving, and investing - they're going to be the First World of the 22nd century.  When there's a problem, like disease, or water or food shortages, free & productive people don't whine about it - they make a profit by solving it.

The world will not end.  Though I believe it needs a lot of work.  Once the [evil] Chinese catch up in wealth, they will become scared too.  It's like not caring about floods because you don't own a house. But then you buy one and suddenly flooding means something to you.
