Okay -- this is an odd but hopefully humorous poll.  Many of my male and female friends and relatives have been surprised to find that we ALL DON'T AGREE with whether the descending flap on the disposable paper toilet seat cover goes down in front (furthest away from the wall) or in back (closest to the wall).  I won't tell you the results of my poll of some 20 or so friends/relatives because that would skew the results of this poll.  I will admit that I was surprised at the lack of agreement.

So, excusing my odd humorous poll (and we all know that humor is a subjective thing), please respond.  And, er, don't forget to flush!

OK Steph the seat, that part that is movable - that when ya siddown, you set it down? - is horseshoe-shaped. The flap goes there, or so I always pictured it, and can even be tucked sort of. There is no such corresponding formation in the back of the commode. That I can picture.
Like I said, it's scientific.

Okay, a bit of careful scientific analysis here...

Given that: A- the purpose of the flap is for it to lie in the path of the flush water so that flushing will pull the entire paper into the toilet and down the drain,

And that: B- research shows that all of the toilets in the statistical sample (both of them!) deploy a much greater volume of water from the front as opposed to the back when flushing,

Then: One may conclude that the flap should be placed where the flushing volume is highest, maximizing the odds of the paper being flushed away; that is, at the front.

Most of you so far, 7 to 2, agree that the flap should be on the front (furthest from the wall).  Before I started asking around, I felt this was a question that had only ONE ANSWER.  Like the drawing on Susan's response, I had presumed that the flap should be on the front.  Surprisingly though, with my friends and relatives, women often (not always) gave a different answer than the men.  I won't tell you what most women thought versus most of the men.  Don't believe me?  Try the query out on YOUR friends and relatives, both men and women, and see what they say.  I'd be interested in the results of your own personal polls.  Note that even here at Susan's, we all don't agree.  It's interesting how something so obvious to some can be interpreted in a completely different way by others. 

It's what Galileo faced when he tried telling people that the world actually revolved around the sun.  Until we get confirming photo images from space, perhaps placement of the paper toilet seat cover will remain a mystery.

Um, it should have actually been 8 to 1.  I answered wrong because I always had done it from the front.  I just had forgot and took a guess.  Sorry for screwing up the results, but I couldn't take back my answer.

Okay, I'll fess up to what I've found so far.  About 9 out of 12 GG women I've talked to say that they put the flap in the back.   I can't imagine why they do that but, after all, there is no training manual on these things in the stalls.

Try asking some of your GG women friends.  Maybe putting the flap in the back is an L.A. thing, lol.  I do notice that sometimes, when I travel, the places I visit don't even have the paper covers.  I can't imagine that, either.

Now THAT gg enquiry is just too odd.

Having the flap hang down inside in front (the correct position to follow contour of toilet seat) - it is RATHER awkward with male plumbing which tends to pee on the flap with certain 'after-effects'...

With girl plumbing the flap in front works perfect --- so why girls put it in back eludes me.
Also doing a # 2 and messing all over a rear flap is not what it's designed for.

I guess those ggs questioned only did wee-wee, when ever using those liners.
