As Ellen Goes, So Goes the Nation
When Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi got married in California in August, there were no protests, no career fallout, and no media backlash, just congratulations from all.

It was an archetypal People celebrity wedding featuring two of the beautiful people, one in pants and the other in a gown, and a dreamy setting with flowers, champagne, candlelight, the whole romantic nine yards. No expense spared, no fabulous purveyor left unmentioned. (Mark's Garden! Zac Posen! Neil Lane!) The only thing missing: a groom.

But People hardly noticed.

And that's what was most amazing about the August 16 marriage of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi: People and other mainstream celebrity news sources didn't treat the event much differently than they would, say, the arrival of Brangelina's next children. CNN.com did headline the word "marry" in scare quotes, but the blogosphere outcry forced the site to make a quick edit. Other than that there seemed to be no backlash from the mainstream media or public.

People don't care about it anymore.  Did anyone not know that Ellen was gay?  In a time of war, more war, financial failure, foreclosure who really cares who some Hollywood type gets married to?
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

Well I care.

I've wanted to marry Portia since I first saw her on Ally McBeal.   >:( to Ellen.

Well you have to step up to the Hollywood marriage bar, being a star helps.  Or K-Fed, or just marry her for 55 hours.  Its not like these things last anyway, so there might be hope yet.

Oh there's hope alright.  I'm going to frame Ellen for cheating and when Portia needs someone to run to - I'll be there.

First, I have to travel to Hollywood and figure out how to make Ellen look like she's cheating, and have Portia get to know me well enough to come to me in a time of crisis.  All while not working because I'll be busy setting all this up.

I can help with that!  I have the hots for Ellen!  That way it won't *look* like it's cheating!  It really will be!!

Hmmm...  Now to turn on my womanly charm...

HOLD ON ELLEN!  I'M ON MY WAY!!!!  ;D ;D ;D ;D

It was the same when George Takei and Brad Altman married a week or so ago!  All this gay marriage okay-in-the-media's-eyes-ness warms my heart.

I saw a sweet photo of George, his spouse, and a couple of old friends all looking happy.

Do I sense a business opportunity here?  "Marry X for 72 hours! Only $10,000! (Plus ceremony and legal fees)"

you'd have to draw up seriously detailed contracts. Prenups. Who does what if a child is produced. Do I have to meet your parents?  and so on.
  •

Lisbeth

That's what lawyers are for. The higher the risk for the celebrity, the higher the price.

Nothing says romance like 'pre-nup.'  Here are some roses and candy and would you sign here, here, and here.

A good pre-nup? Don't get divorced without it.
