Sacramento County coroner's officials and police are trying to determine the identity of a young person whose body was found in the American River Sunday, September 21, just north of the midtown area of Sacramento, near Richards Boulevard.

The body was discovered by a group of people fishing at about 12:45 p.m. Sunday in the river, southeast of the Highway 160 bridge, a coroner's official said. The individual's identity has not yet been determined. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Konrad Von Schoech, Sacramento Police public information officer, wondered about speculation that the body recovered was that of a transgender woman. According to Vonschoech, the body recovered was listed in the police report as a male.
