Transgender books - The Transsexual Empire

I have mentioned several times that my journey was hampered back in
the 1980s by misinformation on the subject of transsexuality.
Unfortunately, it was not simply the case that I lacked adequate
knowledge - rather, I became obsessed by some of the negative
discourse that I did encounter. This book - The Transsexual Empire by
Janice Raymond - was a particular bete noire. I could not let go - I
read and re-read it compulsively. If she was right, what did it mean
for me? If she was wrong, how could I prove it?
