I wanted to see if anyone else has ever heard of this stuff? Some sitr abroad stated that it makes hair grow on your face. It is a product for thinning hair. They have colors to choose from and it is like 20.00 for a bottle. I'm thinking that is not to much and would last a while if just putting it on your jawline. I can grow stuff underneath, and it is black, but the sides come in blonde and not as thick as the other. It will be interesting to see how long it will take once on T again, and also I wonder if age matters? I was 21 the first time on T and then only for 10 months. I kind on remember sparse beard growth, and had a slight acne thing. Now I am 41, and since I was on T before can grow a bit of stuff, so I am hoping it will just take off from where it ended before and maybe not take so long. But if it does maybe this Nanogen will help with filling in?

Neither WebMD or MedlinePlus have "nanogen" listed in their dictionaries.

However according to the http://www.nanogen.co.uk/ website it does not grow hair:

Nanogen is different. Using specialist microfibre technology, each hair is made thicker and fuller in an instant to produce outstanding results not seen with any other similar product.

Also from http://www.salonweb.com/nanogen/

Nanogen is a thinning hair concealer that is made of microscopic keratin fibers that can be sprinkled onto thinning hair and bald spots to instantly increase the thickness and density of each hair exactly like Toppikā„¢ microfibers.

At present only two medications have been approved by the FDA for the treatment of hair loss, namely finasteride (Propecia) and minoxidil (Rogaine). However treating hair loss and growing new hair are not the quite the same thing. That is to say that treating shrunken or unhealthy follicules may differer from dormant follicules that never developed (like on a woman's face).

The Propecia probably would not work because it works by decreasing the male hormone DHT and it's effect. DHT is thought to help cause male pattern baldness by shrinking the hair follicles. Lowering the DHT with Propecia causes a reversal of the shrinking hair follicles, but it may be unlikely to cause dormant follicles to grow.

I think the Rogaine on the other hand that is said to stimulate the hair follicles is more likely to work for you. Aparently it also causes dormant folllicules to grow because of the warning label.

Pregnant or nursing women should avoid minoxidil in either form and be cautioned that the use of extra-strength formulas are not designed for women and can cause facial hair growth and other problems.

Sandi,

Thanks for the detailed info. I will take what you said as true. Even though a guy said he tried it and it worked. Whatever. I will just have to TRY to be patient and wait for the T to kick in.  Is that picture you?

From what I understood, you could use nanogen now on your current hair until T kicks in.  Also, I know that's not her picture, since she used to have a link to her website that had the real pictures.  I thought the same thing at first though.

Ha!!

Don't I wish. No, I am 2 or 3 times that old, and probably the granny around here as I turned 65 last St Patricks day.

This is me taken at the 2004 Sutherland GLBT party (and probably the one Melissa saw here).

But as you can might detect bangs are hiding a slight receding at the temples. Although the hair is still natural blonde with hardly a gray strand.
