One of the things that I have been frustrated as hell to watch over the last two decades is the GOP attack on intelligence for political reasons.

As someone who is a proud TK (teacher's kid), graduated from a gifted and talented high school and went on to college, I'm cognizant of and place high importance on education and my leaders being intelligent enough to handle the challenges of governing our country at the federal, state and local levels.

But one thing that has irritated me is this anti-intellectual strain that has been a cornerstone of the GOP rise to power over the last 20 years.

GOP attack on intelligence for political reasons.

They also hate it for personal reasons and spiritual reasons.  Its a well rounded hate.

Yes, Republicans are nothing if not well-rounded.

But what better way to form a dictatorship where the Pat Buchanans and Sarah Palins and Dubyas get to be in "power" while the aristocrats are quietly enslaving everyone else. "Let them have cakes if they have no bread."  :) And only trouble will arise from "those people" learning to read and think, give em tv and computer gaming!

Hey, don't knock the PC gaming - that's what the religious right is for.

The biggest irony is that the Republicans stole their anti-intellectual tricks from leftist academics of the late 20th century. They attack the media and science on the basis that both institutions are imperfect social constructs, though they won't put it in quite those words. Of course it's good to acknowledge the inherent limitations of any way of describing the world; but the right-wingers these days go overboard, just as much as many leftist academics did in the '70's and '80's.

Just being a bit contrary. :)

The difference is that the leftist academics were not paid any attention to, the political types get to make (failed) policy for everyone.

When it comes to intelligence, the republicans should not be "criticizing what they don't understand".

I shouldn't of opened this thread.  Those people make me want to attain my own private nuclear program.

Lets share.  I'll do the U-238 reduction and you to the triggering, we'll both have 50% input on the final target list as long as Branson Mo. is on top.

I don't understand what you're saying, but I'm in.

Good enough, understanding is so overrated.
