I'm starting to get read as male here in the Northeast, which is cool. I'm also starting to notice that random people start talking to me in stores, and that NEVER used to happen. Ever. And if I needed help in a store, it was hard to get the attention of the clerks. Not any more. Last week I had a cool conversation about drain snakes in the plumbing aisle of Home Depot.
Tonight I'm looking for work boots, since my feet have gotten bigger on T. Odd. Anyway, I'm trying on a pair of Hi-Tecs, and this guy comes up to me and tells me that those boots are crap. See? He shows me how the toes of his are all peeling back, and the boots aren't that old. Cheap Chinese crap, yada yada. I thank him and say that it's hard for me to find boots that fit because my feet are small. I'm a 7.5-8 mens depending on the brand (used to be a 6.5 Mens; 8.5 Ladies). He just says, I hear ya, buy what you want, etc. He wanders off, complaining about the selection of boots and why there arent' more. So when he wandered back, I said, did you see the boots over there? This store had a whole selection of boots for construction guys. He looks over, gets all excited, and says, hey thanks! You're the man!!
So there. I'm the man!!
I told my kids they can just tell their friends now: That's my mom. He's the MAN!
