Ok I am moving forward fast here. I ventured into the land of chat on Susans this evening. I apologize for interupting the discussion if any of you read this. I looked around in the chat area for good directions or chat etiquette. Like do you intrudice yourself when you enter, becasue of course I couldn't figure out how to change my name from guest.
If anyone knows a place where I could learn the "chat rules" please let me know.
Thank You
Myles

Like does the green stuff show up for everyone or just you? How long do you hang put before you introduce yourself so you don't butt into a conversation. pretty basic stuff im looking for will be a while before I can add smiley faces or anything.

the rules for both forum and chat are here:  https://www.susans.org/forums/index.php/topic,2.0.htm

its pretty much the same for both places. usually when you go on chat someone will say hi, if not don't be afraid to speak up! don't worry about interrupting, we usually have a couple conversations going on at once anyway.

to change your name, type "/nick myles" without the quotes. hope to see you in chat  :D

And the pace is usually slower in #TSTalk and #CDTalk, Myles.  Even slower in other rooms, like #FTMTalk.

If no one else is active in those rooms, an Operator should come say hello to you.  If not, try #Chat.

Welcome to #chat myles, I was away doing other stuff (AFK, away from keyboard) at the time, so I'm sorry that I didn't catch you then.

QuoteI apologize for interrupting the discussion if any of you read this. I looked around in the chat area for good directions or chat etiquette.
You don't have to apologize, alot of the time, there are multiple subjects going on simultaneously.

QuoteLike do you introduce yourself when you enter, because of course I couldn't figure out how to change my name from guest.
Most of the time I will either just say "hi everybody" and respond likewise, or wait and say hi to somebody entering #chat.

To change your nick in chat, either click on the "Change nick" link to the left of the chat window, or type "/nick yournewname" in the text box. (no quote marks)

Or course you know the rules at Susan's, right?
For an irc guide, try this: http://www.irchelp.org/irchelp/new2irc.html
This guide is a bit generic but should be a good start.

QuoteLike does the green stuff show up for everyone or just you?
The default time before you are put into AFK state, is about 20 minutes. (is this what you mean?)

QuoteHow long do you hang put before you introduce yourself so you don't butt into a conversation?
It depends on what is happening at the time, most of the time I'll wait about a minute before talking in a discussion already in progress. Other times when there isn't anything to chat about, you can either start something by just saying what is on your mind, (assuming a captive audience) or lurk around a little until one starts.

Hope I could answer your questions decently. :-\

Everyone thank you very much for your answers. I think I will read the link and try again tomorrow night when I get back from a weekend in a net free zone. Going to a friends weekend house on the coast, suppose to be relaxing. For me its hard to relax when I can't get online but I think I can manage>
Thanks again everyone has been great about this!
