Lynn Westmoreland and I guess he had never heard of The Colbert Report

Yeah... religion is little more than a tool and a convenient banner for most politicians.

Pretty much, they lost my respect in 2000 when the president at the time claimed to be one thing and then showed himself to be something totally different. Then we had John Ashcroft, the Patriot act, Guantanamo bay cuba, secret searches, secret courts, Secret prisons, Arresting Americans in America and denying them their constitutional access to the courts, lies to go into Iraq, Torture, Secret rendition, Outing a CIA agent, All the corruption, Katrina, Warrantless spying on Americans, Abu Ghraib, Haditha, Iran, tax cuts for the wealthy, the supreme court, I could keep going.

As things stand now my vote will be for anything but Republicans. Now that might change if a republican worthy of my vote runs but I seriously doubt that happens with the religious fundies in charge of their party.

While I'm not up on the US political scene other than what makes headline news, I've gotta say that the clip is priceless, what a buffoon

The party needs to go back to its fundamental roots of smaller Federal governement and fiscal responsibility.

As a republican, I, to, am so disenchanted with where the party has gone that I am also not voting republican for the next several elections.  It will take that long to start swinging the party back to where it needs to be.

Up till 2000 I was a Republican btw, incase I didn't make that clear in my previous message.  Before the 2004 election, I voted mainly a republican ticket. Yes I even voted for Bush in 2000

Shame on you Susan.  I voted Gore in 2000.  Washington won the democrat vote, but it wasn't enough.  At least you learned your lesson.

Arresting US citizens on trumped up charges and holding them without a hearing is nothing new.  Anyone remember Kevin Mitnick, the supposed big time hacker that stole billions worth of info (that was said to get the feds really involved, it was actually a far cry from that)?  Four years pre-trial.  One year of that in solitary confinement because they were afraid OF him, nor for him.

No but he had access to both a lawyer and the courts to challenge his detention. A Judge ruled that he was too much of a risk to be left free based on information provided by the government to the judge. However that is a far cry from arresting people in the United States and taking them out of this country to deny them their constitutional rights. If the government has the evidence of a crime there is absolutely no reason a civilian court could not try the case and sentance him to prison. You only do a end run around the Constitution when you don't have a case against the individual in question. Or you want to use illegal actions to try to build a case.
