Lost my tutoring job

Not much of a surprise.  The place I was working for had the tutor show up at the student's home, and I was showing up dressed androgynously, nail polish and all.  One family I worked with over the summer didn't care, and I figured maybe it wasn't such a big deal.  So I started showing up androgynous for the new students I got this fall.  Anyway, the two most recent families must have thought my appearnace was a big deal, based on how quickly they had me replaced.
Like I said, I'm not surprised in the least, just somewhat bummed out that something like this would get in the way.  I'm a good tutor, and have always had good success with students, and it just seems kind of, I don't know, silly, to think something like the color of my nail polish has anything to do with whether I can teach a kid Geometry or Chemistry.

Anyway, not an especially big deal-- tutoring was just a side job to earn some extra cash.  My primary job is still intact, and going well.
I'm thinking of maybe working some weekends at the mall during the holiday season.  Also thinking of actually going in, applying, and working as Jessica.  I might have better luck passing as a girl than trying to pass myself off as a guy with my long hair and all.  Has anyone had experience doing something similar?

Hi Jessica. I'm sorry you lost your tutoring job. Are you managing ok? Are they any job prospects?

Oh jeez, I'm sorry to hear that Jessica. You know how people are, ESPECIALLY in south OC. Don't let it get to you. I think the issue with the getting-a-job thing is going to be more the name and documents and stuff. What about a small boutique in Laguna Beach where it wouldn't be as much of a big deal? How's everything else going?

So here's the news with my tutoring drama--
I actually work for two different places and within a few days of losing my students from one company, I got a call from the other company, so now I have a tutoring student again!  I don't want to risk losing the work so close to the holiday season, so I figured I would just suck it up and show up looking a little more like a guy so as to keep things okay.
So far, it seems to be working.  :)
Thanks to all for your concern!
