The amnesty the first time was a fiasco and did not solve the problem. The U.S. can not take all the immigrants that want to come here. Especially those that do not obey the laws and do things the legal way. There is going to be a heavy price for those who are here illegal one so high that perhaps it would be cheaper to make their own countries better.

Our economy depends on illegal immigrants.  Take a look in the kitchens of restaurants.  See who prepares your meals.  Speaking of food, who do you think harvests the crops and works in the slaughter houses?  The western part of the US was a part of Mexico until the US conquered it.  So, hey, the old tenants are moving back in.  Just like Israel did.

Read "Nobodies" people here illegally have no social security number so the work off the books and can not open a bank account. They have no insurance and do not pay taxes. Some get false identification which can land them in jail as, Homeland security has already fined and arrested some at meat packing plants for not cross checking SS#. House keepers, gardeners, farm workers, working on a cash bases has eroded the tax base and has people working below the minimum wage. The federal government does not have enough staff to enforce the laws so many live in fear that one day they will be caught. It is no different than hiding from the draft in another country.

So open the borders, (it's pourus now) and bring immigrants into the formal economy.  The prople that work in many of those jobs DO pay taxes.  In fact they contribute more in tax revenues than they receive in benefits.  Bush was wrong on almost everything but immigration he was spot-on.

They pay sales tax and propriety tax but the need a SS# to work and pay income tax. You do not get a SS# with out proof of your status here. Like a green card or proof of citizenship.

That is why that the government requires a cross check of employee name, sex, birthday and SS#. Those who do not do this can be fined as it takes years to catch someone using a fake SS# that the government is being paid taxes on. But they do get caught. My mother in laws number was used by an illegal immigrant a few states away. It took a year to get it straight as the person was here for 10 years was fined and deported.
