Holy ->-bleeped-<- Batman!—the new Mayor is a Guy in a Dress

First we get the return of the pregnant man now it's the media attack of the crossdressing mayor. That's right, although most of the ->-bleeped-<- blogs are ignoring it for the most part, the mainstream media has been filled with stories about Stu Rasmussen, Silverton, Oregon's new mayor.

"A self-described "...dude ...a heterosexual male who appears to be a
female," Rasmussen has lived in Silverton all his life, has a live-in
girlfriend of 25 years and recently got 36D breast implants."

and the bonus?.......he tells the media he's "transgendered". This is the worst nightmare scenario for post-trans women who have been branded by the trans-activists for the past ten or so years as "transgendered".

How is it a 'nightmare' when someone who calls himself/herself TS gets elected to a political office?  Really, talk about eating your own young.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

Not this again ... And the  punchline is : " A self-described ...dude ...a heterosexual male" ... ???
Please ......  :D

Oh yeesh, now you question his sexuality. He/She is what they are.  So be it.  Good enough for the voters, good enough for me.

Well, Cathryn is known for not supporting the idea of the transgender umbrella.

I lived in Eugene for a while. Oregon is just...weird. They can be very progressive on one hand and redneck as hell on the other. Trying to sort it all out is a pain. I pretty much can't stand the west coast. Everyone is so f__king conflicted.

Check the video link on that blog, it's to an interview where Stu states he is a guy, a heterosexual male and a transgender.  He never uses the word transsexual.  He makes zero claims to womanhood, he uses only male pronouns to refer to himself.

OK, he says he's a guy, a heterosexual male and transgender. The suggestion being? That he somehow makes you or I look like we are "less-than?"

I'm always amazed at how much 1) some trans-women continue to deny the fact they ever transitioned to anything at all and 2) seem so very concerned with how another's comfort manages to take them out of their own.

Our political tropes here in USA seem to require the letting of blood, consistently. *sigh*

Perhaps good news, someone with some transgender identification being elected to something in a small town, trumps the vacuous concern that "he's going to make me look bad."

Whatever the radical-HBSers write always seems down to that kernel: how badly off they will be if anyone else doesn't "fit" into their tightly disciplined and thoughtless molds. The fewer the more valid, the more one can embrace the beast: the pseudo-thought and research of Freund, Blanchard, Zucker and Bailey the "better-off" I will be?

I rather think not. A few opened eyes to see that sometimes the enemy of my enemy is also my enemy and as demeaning of me as they are to my enemy isn't a bad way to view things, can even touch the bounds of good sense.

A tired conformity and a foolish consistency are simply tired and foolish, not glorious and knowledgeable.

"People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of their character."
Ralph Waldo Emerson

trust me this does NOTHING to help in the bigotted world of retail that i work in. they can their hands on this and they'll be like oh well he identifies as a man in a dress so can you and we will force you to use the mens room even though you have documentation from a therapist stating your validity to womanhood, therefore stating to me they are not repecting me as an an individual, nor care anything about my safety. my former manager was threatened because i was a pervert and a freak and needed to be fired because of who i was, luckily i'm a decent enough employee that he stood behind me, but corporate could give a crap less.

i still think it's great he got RE-elected to a position of power, once coming out, i'm happy for that but (isn't their always a but?) looking like that even in Oregon, i don't care what the laws are i sure hope he doesn't use the men's room. and i hope he never makes a trip to Ohio as transgender/transsexual people have no protection on the state level if you reside here unless you worl for the state until Governor Strickland leaves office, which i think is bull two-fold.

this is one of those things that it's good for some and bad for others. i for one definitely see the bad side of it for me. and sure as hell don't identify as a man in a dress!! he can but i don't want to be considered in that light. i know others agree.

This is grossly bad for those of us who identify as women ... honestly !

Now if the general public knew the finer points seperating TS, TG, TV, CD ... maybe ...

But we're "lumped together", and the least thing I want to be identified with is this batty male identifying, hetero guy, with his deep voice, wearing a frock, bizzare enough to do BA for "kicks" despite no feminine feelings or identification ...

Strewth, just so glad this DIDN'T make UK papers ... re-appearance of pregnant "man" was embarassing and negative enough to our community.

I'm a W.O.M.A.N. and these wierdos undermine any claim I have to being a "regular girl" ... as they lump me into a collective basket of TG'd freaks ... and I challenge anyone to argue with that !

Wow, Oregon elects a "fetishistic wierdo" ... why should I be happy with that ?

Now if he were an "out" gay guy in a loving, long term, domestic partnership, even marriage, yes that would be something to clap for ...

A few months ago, this author was criticizing transgender women and calling them "men" or "drag queens", and saying they made transsexual women like her look bad. Now here's a transperson who identifies as a man, not at all claiming to be TS, and she's criticizing them as well. Ya can't win!  ::)

I admit that I find it hard to understand why Mayor Rasmussen wants to look like a woman while maintaining a male identity.  On the other hand, I am uncomfortable second-guessing him.  I don't know his life and I can't read his mind.  Drag queens maintain a male identity and yet enjoy looking female, often putting quite a bit of work into it - perhaps his situation is similar. <shrug>  I am just glad he has found a home where he is accepted and happy.

Several comments have mentioned that the publicity over Mayor Rasmussen makes it harder for us.  I think they are right - it does mean that we may have to do more clarifying about ourselves individually.  The majority population is often ill-informed about minorities, and see one example as representing the whole group.  So, yes, we may have to do more explaining and correcting.  Its a headache, but the alternative is to expect others to sacrifice their happiness for the convenience of a larger group.  If this expectation were valid, would anyone be allowed to transition?

I don't know if the world at large is ready for Stu, in fact I'm quite certain they're not, but I have to admit I was happy to hear his community is.  I thought it was kind of cool to see someone who combines one gender identity with another gender presentation.  But of course that's from the perspective of someone who somewhat understands and enjoys the variety of gender expressions, to the larger world, those of you saying he will be used to invalidate your congruent identity and presentation are probably right.  :\

Yes youre right I shouldnt second guess him. But I cannot see any other reason for him doing this.
Other than it being some kind of publicity stunt.

Oh, gosh.  I'm sorry, I should have realized it looked like I was questioning what you wrote.   :embarrassed:

Your words spurred my own thoughts, so I was just trying to give what I wrote some context.  That's why I quoted you (I'll have to be more careful in the future.)   No, you're right, the mayor is pushing the envelope of transgender acceptance.
