While the whole thing isn't great, check out Matt Kailey's Just Add Hormones.  The whole ending about being a desperately alone penis-less gay man is kind of lame, but the rest is cool.

i'm reading Becoming a Visible Man right now. it has a bit of activism type stuff but its a pretty easy and good read

I heard Stone Butch Blues is really good.
I read like the first two chapters of The First Man-Made Man when I was ninja-ing my way into the gay section at the library one time. It was pretty interesting.

Seconded on Matt Kailey's book. It's both academic enough to provide some insightful commentary on the process itself, and personal enough for you to really feel what it's like to transition. There's a lot of very astute observation about male social roles and about what it feels like to go from being in the minority (butch lesbian) to the majority (straight male). One scene in particular has him in his new, post-testosterone male role explaining what a drag show is to a clueless hick. Marvelous. I found this in the college bookstore during my freshman year when I first transitioned and I've read and reread it many times since then.

     Ooh, I recognize Parrotfish, because I found it in my library's catalog when searching.  I am glad to have been reminded.
     The Well of Loneliness is not an FTM book, but rather about a lesbian (albeit a very masculine one).  Nevertheless, it is quite good (one of my favorites) and I recommend it most highly.  However, realize that invert is an olden word for homosexual, and does not mean introvert.  I traversed through much of the book on that assumption, much to my future horror.

I recently read a great novel where the main character is FTM.  It involves his story as well as the other members of his family.  The story starts when Mary realizes at the age of six that she's really a boy.  The year is 1952 and the setting is rural Suffolk in the UK.  The story follows Mary's journey to becoming Martin over a period of 25 year.  The name of the book is Sacred Country and the author is Rose Tremain.  It's an excellant read!

I recently read <i>Stone Butch Blues</i> and it was heart breaking, but definitely deals with the journey one might take.  Also even though it's technically fiction...it's not really.  I loved it.
