STROLLING DOWN the India Gate a few days ago, I found myself standing face-to-face with a woman. She was wearing a black saree, loud make-up and her hands meeting crossways in a clap, trademark of a eunuch. In her heavy voice, she said, "Dede...". Scared and astonished at the same time, I reluctantly handed over some money to her. She blessed me. I asked her name. She smiled and said 'Janaki'. Catching sight of a policeman approaching, she ran away.
