I need help... I really have only one friend period, and they live out of state. I hopeless socially, and I don't know how I could really make any new friends. I need advice.

My only friend is male, but we've been friend since fourth grade. Otherwise I usually just am unable to relate well to men. On the other hand, I have difficulty making friends with girls because they seem to think I'm only talking to them to get in their pants. I'd really like a girl as a friend, just not a "girlfriend". I'm really lonely and I just don't have anyone to talk to.

::hugs:: You have friends in us, Aelita. :)

Are there any book clubs you can go to?  Other hobbies that are social, like knitting perhaps?

There are many sites out there where you can get a pen pal, too.  Pen pals are really fun. :)  The only trouble is finding a site that will actually set you up with a good one, lol.

Aelita_Lynn, I know how hard it is to be without many friends. When I was younger, I had friends, but nobody really close to me that I really felt a true bond with.

Have you seen into joining the closest GLBT group in your area? You could probably find some really good friends if you go to one ;). Since I joined my GLBT group at college I made some good friends, I'm sure you'll be able to too ;).

Currently transportation is kind of an issue for me. Despite being 20, I still don't drive and it's hard for me to get anywhere (this may change in a few months though  :) ) My family can get me places, but they won't drive far, and there are only certain things I would be comfortable asking them to take me to.

- I'd like to find a gaming group (for table-top RPGs Or Board Games) but they are just too far away.

- There is a book club at my local library but they hardly ever meet.

- I've never thought about knitting before, although I would be willing to give a knitting group a try. Unfortunately I don't think I could get away with knitting without some difficult questions.

- As far as GLBT groups go... I've got nothing. I can't find anything in my area at all, so there's no point in even considering it.

I'll look for something at my college, but I don't really know much about whats there. I know they have an anime  club that meets once a month, but think I'd really have to search intensively to even find any other kinds of clubs there period.

I make all of my friends online

through playing online games such as WoW

or on forums for my various interests

that gives us a good starting point of similar interests  ;D

I feel for you hun. I always found my friends going out to punk shows and punk bars. But where i live i have only found a bunch of asses that i would rather not know. So since I moved to Chicago i am in the same boat as you. I was going to try a GLBT group and see how that goes. Aside from that I`m into Drag boats but there is not a lot of acceptance there for trans folks so I`m looking too. Of all thing people here are pretty friendly and we are here to make it not seem so lonely. You can PM me if you`ed like to talk to someone.
