Joining the Navy to prove your masculinity doesn't work. Lol, I went down that route and I think it had the opposite effect.

There's always time, honey. You're still young yet and have plenty of opportunity to realise your true self. If you've reached a deeper understanding of yourself and what you want in life compared to before, then nothing was wasted. Look to the future, and what you can achieve rather than the past, and what you have achieved. That's my philosophy.

Hi Eliza hon, welcome to Susan's Gee you are certainly still young, I didn't start transitioning until I was 54 years old. I have lived 9 years full time as female and post-op 4 years ago. You will meet many M/F TS here who have experienced a variety of different circumstances and different ways of accepting who they are and how they have approached transitioning. You are not alone.

I know how you feel. I am scared to death about coming out. I know where I want to go but it's a long scary road to get there. It sounds like you have already gone a long way. Keep employed is definitely important. I hope your job has a positive attitude about it.

I think my company will tolerate it but I'm not sure how my co-workers will react.

Well all of my new friends here have guessed my age 10 years younger then I am and that is only because I look younger then my partner.  It certainly ain't because I lived a good life, more like got toughened to living a rough life. Well anyway I'm still alive well and kicking and as happy as a swarm of ants at a picnic. I would even severely complain if someone was to hang me with a new rope. "hee, hee, hee."

Welcome to our little family. Over  1100 strong. That would be one heck of a family reunion. Feel free to post your successes/failures, Hopes/dreams.  Ask questions and seek answers.  Give and receive advice.

But remember we are family here, your family now.  And it is always nice to have another sister.

Doing the proving thing never works.  I have been in the Army and the Navy.  Long story there.  And I have driven 18 wheeler and been an auto mechanic.  But now I only want to be the woman I am.

Welcome to the forum where support is plentiful and people are warm and caring. I made the mistake and went really hardcore and joined the Marines. Not the best place for girls like us. It helped me realize just how different I was from the other guys although it's quite the extreme. I've battled for years with the flip flop, being afraid to go down that road and only now realize just how much pain it's caused me.

Find a support group if nothing else. I find myself saying this quite a bit, but the reality is that it does help in so many ways. Find a group you can be yourself with and comfortable. It's definitely a start and will help you realize things you may not be able to on your own.

I too am in IT and I've been in and am still in the same boat of company acceptance but not so much the co-worker aspect. Let's start a major corporation and hire people like us! There I go dreaming again...

Doesnt matter how far or long you have been transitioning, theres always something new to learn thats for darn sure

Your the same age as me. 33 years young. Your story has some amazing similarities to mine. I struggled with wanting to come out from about age 27. I also worked in IT (laid off at the moment). I'm glad ya found us!
