Well, today after meeting with my GT I went out shopping at Super Walmart for over an hour! What a marvelous and confidence building experience. You see, I'm 6'1" and 195lbs. So I never believed I'd pass at all.

But I dressed conservatively in a pair of black Gloria Vanderbuilt jeans, Black & White V-Neck long sleeve top and really cute Easy Spirit black walking shoes.

As I walked into the store no one hardly gave me a look. So I smiled, nodded politely when making eye contact and briefly spoke with a couple women during my shopping. Yes, I was undoubtably clocked a few times by mostly women. Or maybe they were just staring a little longer to check me out. But no one pointed me out, followed me around or made a scene. I just enoyed my shopping and went about my business.

When I checked out the cashier, a pretty young black women, was really nice. She MAM'd me as a greeting and then got a really nice and cute smile when we made eye contact as I was paying for my items. So I smiled back and said thank you when she gave me my change. Then I picked up my bag and started to walk away when she said "Opps, you don't want to forget these really cute sunglasses honey. Have a wonderful evening." My heart was singing as I walked out of the store and no one even gave me a second look.

Now I haven't started HRT yet, had any hair removed permanately or surgeries. So I was stunned.

Finally, freedom to be me in this world. It doesn't get any better than that.

So today I'm back in the other mode but with a song in my heart and a smile on my face. I'm viewing this mode in a positive way by viewing it as a necessary means to support all the things that I want to do. Because building the right me is going to be very expensive!

Luv To All,

CC

Thank you for sharing that with me Angie as I have been where you are and probably will be again and it is the girls here that help me get through those times.

So it makes my heart full that I was able to GIVE BACK to another girl.

Remember, hopes become dreams and dreams become reality.

*Blink* Wow, you must really look feminine...

Mind if I see a picture? It would be wonderful if I could do the same. *sigh*
If you do not agree to my demands... TOO LATE

Honey, if that is really you in that picture wow, you would have less of a problem than me in passing. You just need to get your confidence and attitude up and you will do great.

Do you have a girl friend that goes out that can mentor you? That's what helped me take the plunge.

Yes, congratulations! That must have made your day, if not your week.

I've read that 90% of passing is attitude. It sounds like you definitely had the right attitude! And you also dressed appropriately for the location.

Yes, 6-1 is taller than most women, but ... ah, I don't mean to sound catty, but have you looked at the average Walmart shopper? Compared to most of them, you're skinny! ;)

Way to go CC... :icon_bunch:

ENJOY ! :eusa_dance:

I remember my first time out shopping...That was way back in 1980....

It was really weird as I had just got myself into a mode where I so frustrated I really just didn't care if people clocked me....but I can remember what happened like it was yesterday....

Firstly I should explain, that I didn't have access to much female clothing as I didn't have a sister and my mums didn't fit; minimal make-up I scratched together; and although I had longer hair in those days, it wasn't really girly.

So the net result must have been a bit of a sight...trainers, tight cord jeans, a girly T shirt (the only thing I had that I could wear) covering a bra stuffed with tights, and a nervous painted smile....

..So what happened?.....Well, the first place I went was a busy back street shop.... I stepped out of the car with my heart pounding and nervously made my way in.....but, I didn't seem to attract too much attention (a couple of glances) while I was browsing the rails,...... and even looking as bad as I did, I got my first ever "mam" from the boy at the check out....Wow!  :icon_biggrin:

Spirits lifted, I decided to head for the main shopping area... I had stopped and was looking in a drug store window when IT happened.... Two 18 year old girls were walking by behind me when one said to the other.... "Hey isn't that a guy"    :icon_yikes:

..... My heart sank, like someone stepping on an empty coke can to flatten it... I didn't dare move, but my ears pricked up, my brain searching for a way out.. :icon_suspicious:

... Then the other girl said "Shhhh.... she's probably just a lesbian" ......and they strutted on past....  :icon_yes:

..But then that was the 80's.... :icon_eyebrow:

..Now like you say, even without the benefits of youth or HRT with a little attention to a few details, we can usually shop with little more than an occasional glance (which most gg's get anyway), or a maybe a knowing looks at really close range....

Still "closeted", so to speak, I would go totally nuts if I couldn't get a bit of retail therapy every so often...
