Cannes was a very sophisticated place to be in the 1890's when the future King Edward VII frequented La Croisette for the healthy sea air, the caviar and the champagne.

For many centuries, the wealthy indulged in 'medical tourism' by travelling to baths and spas across Europe to improve their health and enjoy themselves in the process.
