     just a quick note: Mary Sue said;

     I just wanted to say that the phrase actually comes from Naval usage in the 18th century.  A brass monkey was a frame that held cannonballs ready for shooting from cannons.  Salt spray and freezing temps were unavoidable - remember no heating and a leaky wooden ship?  Well the cannon balls would be popped off the stand by the ice and roll around knocking things all over and breaking bones etc.  similar to a "loose cannon" but not as bad.

     As for getting hit in the testicles, it hurts me way up inside, and I'm clumsy enough that it happens too often for my taste.  In my past I also did unsavory things to them hoping they would go away, which also hurt alot.  It gave me a nauseus feeling.
