Lisa, for some people churches are the equivalent of a huge middle finger to rationality. Does this mean that "common sense" should dictate that people should not build churches? I still don't see the "offending people" part as a valid criterium.

If not 'offending' people is the criteria, then no one would ever do anything, because some people are offended by just about everything.

As long as I don't have to pay for it fine.  But if you're sitting at home waiting for some government check to feed your litter in a place where the definition of "Total Mass Confusion" = "Father's Day" - then I have some problem with it, as I have a hard time seeing why I should work for those that don't.

Anyway, most people prefer 'mature and slutty' as such people at least have a place to crash as they pay their rent.

I am being mature.  You said, "The best way to achieve legal rights is not to violate people's personal culture. Each should police their comrades in observing the other people's comfort levels." Well, holding hands with my partner in public violates some people's personal culture and is outside their comfort level. And you just said not to do that. Are you now saying you said somthing you didn't mean?

Aside from that, it's not my job to police my comrades' behavior in public. There are enough right-wing religious people out there doing that already. I'll deal with my own behavior and leave my comrades to deal with their own.

A major problem with the Rick Warrens of the world is that they refuse to hold everyone to the same standards. If they are really against people being immature and slutty, and are holding marriage and monogamy up as the ideals, then why not allow same sex marriage for those who want it!

And thanks, my gender identity/expression isn't immature. Slutty on occasion perhaps, but generally that's in the privacy of my bedroom
