MTV's 'Real World: Brooklyn' needs a reality check

MTV's "The Real World" claims to showcase what happens when people stop being polite and start getting "real." But how real is it that a bunch of twentysomething nobodies are living in a multi-level waterfront property in Red Hook, Brooklyn? For free.

We've watched the first episode of "The Real World: Brooklyn," premiering Jan. 7 at 10, and put together this quick guide to MTV's version of "real" New York living compared to what happens when a cable network stops picking up your Ikea bill and life starts getting really real.

As more roommates - including perky aspiring dancer Baya, transgender Palm Beach native Katelynn, tattooed former lesbian Sarah and dolphin trainer JD - trickle in, we get to see the rest of the obscenely large pad, which features a fireplace, pool table, four separate bedrooms with "themes," fancy lighting fixtures, real artwork on the walls and a washer and dryer.
