Hi, my name is Shawn.  Although this is the first time that I have said anything, I have been lurking in the shadows here for a few years.  I was just too scared to come out of hiding.  I have been that way for most of my life unfortunately.  I am a 37 year old MTF transexual, and 2008 was a big year for me.  After denying myself for so long, I finally started to see a therapist in August.  I am still filled with trepidation but I have finally started to take my first steps on the path.

I waited until I was 51 to begin my transition.  I have been on estrogen, under a physician's supervision, since 2002 and I had my GRS last November.

I have never been so happy and fulfilled.

As you see, there is nothing to be afraid of   I am just starting to come out as a MTF myself, so I can relate to hiding most of my life.  I'm glad that you have been able to overcome whatever obstacles may have been keeping you in hiding, and found a therapist for your voyage

Thank you all very much for welcoming me.  I wish that I had started this 8 years ago like I had wanted to, but now is as good a time as any, just with more complications is all.  I don't know where this road is going to lead me, but from what I have heard, that mystery is the biggest part of the journey of discovery.  I know that suppressing who I am is no longer working.  It hurts too much to be someone that others want of me, and not what I would like. 

Again thank you all for the warm welcomes.  I do not plan to hide in the shadows anymore (not as much anyway)  Some habits are hard to break

Welcome, i'm a bit older than you 56 and just started my journey in December however it's been going on my whole life in a way. Like everyone has said this is a safe place and no need to hide anymore.
