QuoteOh dear. Get ready to freak out. Somebody has gone and created a mash-up of Google Maps and Prop 8 Donors. Which you can see right here.

Proposition 8, if you recall, changed the California state constitution to prohibit same-sex marriage. That is to say, Prop 8 allowed discrimination into the state constitution. Eight Maps allows you to see who the people are who donated in order to pass it.

And not a single one in North Beach.  My kind of neighborhood.

I'd like to see one for the Prop 8 opposers.  For balance...

This is a great tool to identify people in your neighbourhoods to try to have respectful conversations with.  Although, the latest study on voting patterns suggest that the people who voted for discrimination would do so no matter how many LGBT friends they have...

Hardly the amounts that were claimed the Mormons gave.

Not all members of the CoJCLDS live in Salt Lake, California has a huge population, as does Nevada, where a lot of the pro money came from too, seems that Las Vegas thinks that if Cal has no gay weddings, and they do, CHA-CHING.

It's not a "claim" it's a fact, that Mormons were significant contributors.  As tekla states there is a sizable Mormon population in California, but also, a lot of donations didn't come from SLC but other areas of UT.
From Wikipedia:
QuoteThe Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints,[45][46][47][48] whose members are commonly known as Mormons, also publicly supported the proposition. The First Presidency of the church announced its support for Proposition 8 in a letter intended to be read in every congregation in California.[49] In this letter, church members were encouraged to "do all you can to support the proposed constitutional amendment by donating of your means and time." Media within the gay and lesbian community have reported that bishops and stake presidents set specific monetary goals for their membership, in order to fulfill this call.[50] The response of the LDS membership to their leadership's appeals to donate money and volunteer time was very supportive,[51][52] such that Latter-day Saints provided a significant source for financial donations in support of the proposition, both inside and outside the State of California.[53] About 45% of out-of-state contributions to ProtectMarriage.com came from Utah, over three times more than any other state.[54] ProtectMarriage, the official proponents of Proposition 8, estimate that about half the donations they received came from LDS sources, and that "eighty to ninety percent" of the early volunteers going door-to-door were LDS. [55]

QuoteContributions from Mormons were said to amount to between 33%-40% of the total amount raised in support of Proposition 8.[34]

Quote* Donations from individual Mormons account for about $6.4 million of the approximately $18 million raised through September 24.

I think the map is a bad idea.  It gives further support to the call to make donor information private, rather than public.
