Nationwide hoax exposed from a laptop in Apple Valley

Looking for a way to distract himself while his mom battled leukemia, William Wolfrum helped expose Eisenstadt as a hoax from a laptop computer in Apple Valley.

The revelation started with a post on EisenstadtGroup.com, stating that former Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert had joined a transgender-friendly law firm. That led to a May 30 blog post by Wolfrum decrying Republican symbol Hastert — until Wolfrum realized he'd made a mistake.

"It was one of those moments," he said, hitting the palm of his hand to his forehead. "They essentially had one of those statements every business has, saying they wouldn't discriminate against anyone on the basis of race or gender ... And I had run with it."
