I don't know six tunes, well maybe. But, I could play my git for an hour, easy, keeping them entertained, with my own stuff. If'n they'd stick around that long.

QuoteI never thought of the buskers as noise pollution.

That is because your world revolves around people that make noise for a living. What about all those that do not go to concerts, do not use Ipods, do not buy CD's, do not turn the radio on in the car, do not go into stores that are playing Muzak, etc. many people are not happy with forced sound on them and avoid places that do it.

Consider moving to Rachel, NV. Or Last Chance, CO. Or Tok, AK. The suburbs might also work well for you, provided you have a really strict HOA
All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.

seems as unnatural as people that don't like to taste, or people who walk around with their eyes closed on purpose.

Quoteseems as unnatural as people that don't like to taste, or people who walk around with their eyes closed on purpose.

It is not unnatural it is subjective. Some churches ban music due to the way it robs your ability to reflect. Marketing loves to be the pied piper. The masses are controlled by the hypnotic drone. Then again mainly children follow.

i spose most of what individuals deem unnatural is subjective.
now, i once had a flatmate who only had two cds, and no other source of music. i could never feel completely comfortable in his presence again. i know he was one of the nicest people i have ever met, but from then on he seemed a bit...wrong.

Pardon me. I should have added Tehran to my list.

Lisagirl, to compare what I do with a busker is to compare a Gilbert basic chemistry set with a DOE lab.  Having had both, I'm aware of a slight difference.
FIGHT APATHY!, or don't...

In this fast paced world as the utmost attention is needed and the powers that be are consistently stealing your attention and ability to think clearly with all those signs, billboards and noise. If people could focus more perhaps we would not be lead down the dark road. Entertainment is subjective and the free entertainment of nature has its own harmony.

I'd rather watch the stars twinkle in the sky, than watch a movie.  No shens.

Unless maybe it's Clint Eastwood.  His new movie was wicked.  That guy rocks.

Far from being noise, music may in fact be the very tool we need to focus more:

Quote from: The Neuroscience of Music, New York Academy of Sciences
... they propose that there is nothing special about how Mozart affects the brain, but listening to music that is personally enjoyable has a positive effect on cognition.
...

Whether it is Mozart or Blur, music may be beneficial to memory.
...

Michael Thaut and colleagues have found that music enhances oscillatory firing synchrony in the brain, and they postulate that this is the reason music can enhance memory formation.

Music is simply audible math, after all.

That is why they are playing it during class. It really helped with homework. If there was any truth to that it would be wide spread.

Quotepostulate

Something assumed without proof as being self-evident or generally accepted, especially when used as a basis for an argument: "the postulate that there is little moral difference between the superpowers" (Henry A. Kissinger).

Subjective

QuoteThen the effect of music may be more
accurately assessed as either an enhancement or detriment to performance.
