A report in Politico has revealed that Obama has lied about his support of homosexual marriage as a presidential candidate. During the campaign, Obama repeatedly stated that he opposed homosexual marriage, but favored civil unions instead.

However, in a 1996 statement published on Politico, it is revealed that he answered a homosexual questionnaire by stating: "I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages." He also indicated support for homosexual adoptions, and a state civil rights bill for homosexuals.

"It appears clear that Obama lied during the campaign about his support for homosexual marriage because he wanted to win the national election," said Lafferty. "He was more honest about his views when running for the Illinois State Senate – when fewer people could evaluate his pro-homosexual positions."
