(Washington) The House will vote Tuesday on a proposed amendment to the Constitution that would ban same-sex marriage - part of what the Republican leadership calls "American values agenda" week.

Phone lines to congressional offices were lighting up Monday with people on both sides of the issue lobbying members of both parties.

"The radical right is campaigning vigorously in support of this amendment," the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force told its members in a Monday morning mass emailing. "It is time to make your voice heard! Tell your representative to vote against the Federal Marriage Amendment because you do not believe that discrimination belongs in our Constitution."

Time to get calling.

Does anyone know what the chances of this amendment passing?  If it does, would that mean it couldn't be challenged as a human rights issue?  I think that everyone in our comunity should stand up and vote with their voice on this one.

Well you see the problem is that they do not consider us human.  Thus, we are not allowed the same rights as they list for themselves.

One thing they can do is to declare that the state's public policy frowns on the use of prejudice as a tool to influence juries. Both the California and New York proposals oblige criminal courts to read specific jury instructions, ordering the panel to avoid making decisions on the basis of bias against victims or witnesses.

I don't think so, and foreigners aren't allowed to donate to US political candidates by law either.

When I call my Congressman his staff even asks for my zipcode.

In any case I think that it has enough opposition on the US side to die a quick death.

And remember a constitutional amendment needs 38 states approval to be ratified. Not happening.
