Bad News From America's Top Spy

Riots have become common occurrences in many countries as the financial meltdown continues. The U.S. military is preparing to quell civil unrest at home.

We have a remarkable ability to create our own monsters. A few decades of meddling in the Middle East with our Israeli doppelgänger and we get Hezbollah, Hamas, al-Qaida, the Iraqi resistance movement and a resurgent Taliban. Now we trash the world economy and destroy the ecosystem and sit back to watch our handiwork. Hints of our brave new world seeped out Thursday when Washington's new director of national intelligence, retired Adm. Dennis Blair, testified before the Senate Intelligence Committee. He warned that the deepening economic crisis posed perhaps our gravest threat to stability and national security. It could trigger, he said, a return to the "violent extremism" of the 1920s and 1930s.

Congress has given most of its power to the president. Congress is too lazy to work on the world's problems. Instead they focus on what they can bring home to their state. Working out the details of spending a trillion dollars would take the private sector over a year it would take me a month just to read every word how does the congressman do it? He relies on other people to summarize it for him and never sees the hidden text.

How in the world do we think they are paying attention to all the information tens of thousands of CIA workers are gathering?

Frankly the main problems at the moment are the Israel/Palestine situation and the occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan.

We need everyone out of Afghanistan and Iraq and a single secular, democratic state to replace the mess that exists in I/P. A new name is needed as neither can be used for obvious reasons.

Until all this is sorted there will be trouble throughout the Muslim world. The present situation is simply unacceptable to most of us.

Throughout America's history there was civil unrest when the economy tanked. While I believe today's events are comparable to the 1920's and 1930's, there are opportunities out there. I believe that people need to be more involved with their lives and the issues that confront their communities. We can depend upon congress and Washington because we know better is needed.

As far as pulling out of Afghanistan and Iraq? We're going to be there for awhile.
