OK... When your really stuck (like I am at the moment) then you may start doing those little transition related things, that help you pass, and make you feel a little better while you sort out your issues... ::)

...so amongst other things I practice my vocal training while driving my car on my own...well it seems like a good place to do it, and I put my bluetooth mic on, so nobody thinks I'm totally crazy if they see me..

..Anyway... the reason for this post is that last Friday night I was in a local bar with my boss when my female voice escaped in mid-sentence... It was weird, I was trying to raise my voice and it just jumped and octave and I got half a dozen words out before I realised what had happened...I got strange looks from the people around us, and I had to explain that I had a sore throat (which I didn't).

...I suppose it can happen, but this is actually the 3rd time in the last month, so its beginning to worry me a little. :-\

Has anyone else suffered from this problem ? ...am I overdoing the practice and damaging my vocal chords?

...I'm running out of plausible excuses ::)

...Hmmmm, I know what you mean Kelsi...

...but I also might not have made it clear to some here that I was presenting male at the time.. ::)

well i would expect it to happen more,
as you practice more and more your old male related vocal muscles eventually atrophy and it becomes very hard to find your old voice again

As a percentage of time I still use my male voice more, so I would be surprised if atrophy had started to set in yet  ;D

...but thanks for the warning of 'what is to come'.... ;)

I wish I could offer some advice but I have the opposite problem. My voice tends to slip lower at the end of the day. Especially if I've been on the phone a lot. I have a good excuse for anyone who wonders. I have chronic bronchitis. (I really do) It comes from too many years smoking too many packs a day.

Voicebox = instrument.

When tired and stressed, you may just lose control of it.  You can't consciously monitor everything 100% of the time, only when things go wrong.

My parents are Mormons, and I've had to practice not swearing in front of them.  I slip occassionally, and have to catch myself mid-word and change it to a different word.

Nobody's perfect, especially when it's @ the end of a long day.

It will happen as your voice box and mind begin adjust to the change.  It becomes second nature.  I always cleared my throat like something was stuck when that happened.  Now I can't even get my old voice to come back without difficulty.

Ahh I've got something in my airway" or I've got eosinophilic oesteopharangitis. What's that? Don't know but it seemingly affects how I speak.
