So I was reading the wiki page on M2F HRT and something struck me -- is the sterility permanent or reversible?  Somehow in my previous studies into HRT I was under the impression that long-term HRT leads to permanent sterility, but from looking at the wiki page I can't quite tell if it's saying the same thing or if it goes away if HRT is stopped.  Concrete info one way or the other would be great.

very much depends on your AA, length of time on hrt, do you plan to stop after starting. Bottom line is yes eventually your be sterile.

Okay... I don't plan to stop after starting, but I really want to have kids that are biologically mine eventually and I want to make sure one way or the other before starting it.  Guess I'll be looking up sperm banks eventually.  Hopefully I can get my parents to help with costs on that end since they probably want grand kids as much as I do.

yes thats is the only way, i would strongly suggest banking before you start too

I'm probably not sterile yet (3months) but I tell myself I am.  For me, it was a foregone conclusion that unless I grew a womb I wouldn't be birthing a child, call me bitter. :0  I definately wouldn't rule out adoption but thats light years from now

I just recently banked sperm. It was surprisingly affordable (about $140 dollars per sample and that included a year of freezing). I was 5 months on hormones and I thought I'd be sterile for sure but it ended up my sperm count wasn't even in subfertile levels, just kind of low. I would have been sad if I couldn't ever have biological kids so I'm super glad it is taken care of now. My advice, do it sooner rather than later as you'll probably have a higher count. And stop HRT for a day or two at least before banking (preferably all together but that can be rough).

Why? For medical reasons or ... practical ones?

I've heard from many people that the testicles stop producing sperm altogether on hrt, and thus one can become infertile fairly easily. However, my wife was on hrt for 11 months total, and about 5 months after she went off it, I got pregnant and miscarried. Wasn't expecting that at all... I thought she must be sterile. Now she is holding off on restarting hrt until she is able to afford storage.

Probably raises the sperm count slightly. I think mostly you need some testosterone.
