So I have a deed poll all ready to send out to all who need it with my new boy name, yay

my bank has a form to fill out for name changes...

am I legally allowed to tick "Mr" for my new title or do I have to stick with Miss?

I'm sure I have to tick female gender, much as it pains me, it was just the mr/miss stuff that's got me pondering

Mister

You can probably check off whatever you want.  that way they're not addressing your mail like this...

Mrs. William Hurst
Mr. Petunia Smith

Data entry, I suspect.

Yeah I'd look dumb having Miss on everything, not sure if it's legal though =/ I couldn't request to have "Dr" just because I felt like it

I agree that's what I plan on doing.

Jeatyn, your from the UK aren't you?

I changed my name by deed poll in feb/march last year. I changed everything.. however on the deed poll I requested a title change for legal reasons, and a supporting letter from my Dr stating that my sex should now be changed from Female to Male. So therefore I have not had any problems with changing my title.

You can try it and see if it actually works.. however they may say because your gender isn't going to be changed they cant change your title for legal reasons. You can have a go but legally they do not need to change your title what so ever, you can only request it to be changed. But I would definitely try and let me know how it goes.

All the best to ya bud!

aye I'm in the UK, I haven't even managed to get registered with a GP yet ::) so no letter about gender stuff available  (on a separate note I wish these GP's would stop being ->-bleeped-<-s)

I just wanted to feel like stuff was moving forward and name is easy to change

It's worth a shot, worse they will do is reject it and I'll have to send it in again with Miss ticked

Jeatyn what are you actually trying to get changed as I can assist you if you like as I have changed a *** load of documents no kidding.

The only two things I can think of that need changing are my bank details and the stuff at the job centre

I don't even have a provisional drivers license
  •

Jay

What about your passport, NI card your exam certificates your loyalty cards? Mind Block

Literally EVERYTHING needs changing.

I would change the passport before even trying to imagine applying for a drivers license, just a heads up :)

I have no passport

I can change NI? I thought that would have been the same deal as the Birth Certificate

Only education certificates I have are GCSE's and I don't even know where they are

I have nothing else

It's a huge pain in the ass to do anything because I have no ID whatsoever  :P

Its probably a lot easier to be honest at the moment as when you get a passport or driving license you can send your birth certificate and your deed poll at once and will only get charged one fee. You can change the name on that card yes. I have your number still stays the same though, its quite slow so make sure you have a copy of the card or have written down the number before you send it.  Fair enough then just if you find them then you will need to change the name as employers sometimes request seeing them, as proof of the grades you received.

A word of advice, get a large number of copies when you do the deed poll, they are always useful although the DVLA and Passport Office will want to see the original.

If you are worried about the original being lost or stolen in the post make a personal appointment with the PA and then go to a DVLA regional office where they will process the application and explain how to add a prepaid Special Delivery envelope for the return. Turn around at the DVLA is about 7-10 days.

My original was held when I got married abroad by ultra pedantic bureaucracy so really need to get a new one.

DVLA needed to see the original I got the original and 5 official copies and the official copies was good enough for them. I photocopied the deed poll for smaller companies though. As I didn't mind if they didn't send it back to me then. I paid for the special delivery for my original deed poll certificate and posted it to them with recorded delivery.

aw man, I tried changing it at the job centre, spoke to a few people there, they said it would be absolutely fine and go through ok....but I couldn't do it in the office, I have to call this number and blah blah

Doesn't sound like a big deal but I have horribly pathetic telephone anxiety and I've been putting it off for ages now because I can't psych myself up into calling

DO IT MAN

Seriously as soon as they stop referring to you as "female name" you will be much happier I promise! ;)

I prefer to phone people than to talk to them in person lol :P

ok i finally pulled my finger out :P I will officially be Nick Strife this time next week. I have an appointment with the job centre and the bank, then when that's done I'm gonna apply for my drivers license in the new name. The job centre guy said I might be able to change my gender marker, he's gonna look in to it. They all think I'm a guy there anyway xD

I adore your name Nick it somehow suits you ofc :)

i had to send the dvla my cover letter off my therapist as well to confirm i was not going to reverse my transition.

I do not know about new liscense but i expect it will be similar as your birth certificate will still show you as your birth gender until you can get it changed
