It features a large section entitled "Out of the Closet: Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Fiction and Non-Fiction." Offerings include:

Luna by Julie Anne Peters — From as early as she can remember, Regan O'Neill has known that her brother, Liam, was different. That he was, in fact, a girl. Transgender.

Some people are really really dumb, but I really shouldn't be surprised coz It's nothing new.
I am however offended first as a human being then as a member of the trans community. All the comments bout Muslims and comparing anything that isn't American conservative right-wing insanity (inbreeding???) with sexual abuse of children. Grahhh

That may have been the blurb on the dust jacket. Usually those are written by the publisher, not the author.

But even so ... if I'd seen a book that started like that when I was 13 ... back in the early 1960s, when I thought I was the only kid in the world with such issues .. I would have snatched it off the shelf.

Or rather, I would have wanted to. I probably wouldn't have, for fear that my parents would catch me with it.

Muslems mostly more tolerant to transpeople than Christians. In Iran, they are allowed to make a sex change surgery. But the fight against homosexuals. so, to survive,some homosexuals say that they are transgender/transsexual.
