Sigmund Freud was the first man in the medical profession in an age when a woman was treated like an object, property of her husband, to actually ask questions and listen.
In an age where a woman could be diagnosed with hysteria and then be forced to undergo a hysterectomy.... well, he did have some issues, but he did, without question, a hell of a lot more good than harm.

He started out well in some ways.  He asked women about their experiences, and early on wrote a study on how so many women were victims were incest and how this affected their lives.  But then the psychological community protested, so he changed his mind (at least publicly) and said that they weren't really raped, but that this was a fantasy of the women.  I have no respect for such a man.
