Ok, so its not official yet, but I filed all the paperwork today at the Supreme Court.  Feels very good to get that done.  It is quite expensive though.  Hopefully, within a week or so, I will legally be Valerie.

Ok, so update.  The Judge wants an affidavit from my therapist before he allows the name change.  Lame.

Congatulations Valerie, it is a pretty name. I had a notarized affidavit from my Therapist that I requested although it wasnt needed. I have heard of it happening though that you need a cause for the name change in some States. Just a formality Hon, you shouldnt have any problems. Hugs and good luck.

I just wish they would have told me that ahead of time, or had it on some document somewhere.  I had therapist write a letter, but I didn't know I needed an affidavit.  Oh well.

If you don't mind my asking, what state do you live? I thought you can change your name as long as you don't have any criminal record.

Yeah, that's probably why.  I thought that if I told them why, and had supporting material from my therapist that I would have no hassles.  Instead, it was the other way around.

Well, it is official, I am now Valerie Elizabeth.  I didn't even hit a road bump.  I brought in the affidavit, and the judge signed it that day. That was Friday, and I got the paperwork in the mail today.  He even waived the requirement to publicize it in the newspaper.  YAY!

I haven't mailed anything out yet, but a couple of my friends have started calling me Valerie, and everytime I hear it, I smile.  I get such an amazing feeling just hearing my name being called.
