A Filipino woman identified by her supporters as Shirley Tan is reportedly facing deportation from the United States despite her supposedly 23 years of partnership with an American citizen named Jaylynn Mercado.
The couple's supporters, the LGBTIQ Movement, said Tan and Mercado have been living together in the U.S. on a gay marriage arrangement, along with Tan's 12-year-old twin sons and
Mercado's 76-year-old mother. The union seemed formidable until the banning of same-sex marriage in November 2008 by the State of California.

This is something that would come up after Proposition 8 passed. I gather Shirley is not acitizen. Breaking the family apart serves no purpose. Now I wonder about all the other same sex marriages.

no, she's not a citizen. if i read the local story correctly, she does not have- and never has had- a green card either. as for same sex marriages, there is no advantage in immigration proceedings.

Here's what I find about compromise--
don't do it if it hurts inside,
'cause either way you're screwed,
eventually you'll find
you may as well feel good;
you may as well have some pride
