Before I begin to relate the details so how trans woman Sarah Vestal has reported being called a "screwed-up man ->-bleeped-<-got" by a National Rental Car employee, I need to first explain a bit about transsexuals' transitioning, and how most transsexuals go through at least a short period of time as being visibly trans.

Basically, when transsexuals transition, there is a period of time where most dress and live as members of one's target sex, instead of the sex assigned to one at birth, but because one still has facial and body features that identify one as the sex assigned at birth, a transsexual is visibly transgender.

Sometimes, those facial and body features that identify one as one's sex at birth are corrected with the use of hormones over a few years time. And sometimes too, these features would require surgery or professional procedures -- such as facial hair removal and facial feminization surgery male-to-female (abbreviated to M2F or MTF) transsexuals, or breast removal for female-to-male (abbreviated to F2M or FTM) transsexuals -- if a trans person is to seamlessly "pass" in their target sex. And sometimes, no matter what one does, one never can seamlessly "pass" in their target sex -- and many within the trans community (like me) don't consider passing as the be all and end all of trans experience.

Essentially, due to this period of time whe one is visibly transitioning sexes...Well, trans people don't call this process a transition for nothing.

IMHO.  The attendant, customer service representative and the manger all need to be fired.  But like most companies nothing will happen, except maybe some passing attempt at sensitivity training.

If the regional manger does not follow though with firings, they should be fired.  The officer that threatened to make her late for her fight should also be fired.

An assault is an assault, period.  Firings and jail time would be the least thing that could come of this.  And if I ever have the need to rent a car, it will not be from National.

Follow-Up: National Car Rental Responds To Harassment And Threats Story Of Sarah Vestal

I received an update from National Car Rental with a return call today. My call to them Saturday was the first their public relations people heard of it -- which really isn't surprising as the facility at the Little Rock, Arkansas, is a franchise.

But, spokesperson Christie Conrad added this:

We're going to look into this; this kind of behavior is not tolerated.

It was very clear to me that National Car Rental's national office was not pleased to hear this story at all, the way Ms. Conrad said -- and repeated multiple time -- the "is not tolerated" statement in the phone call sounded like National Car Rental meant that in all capital letters, with three exclamation points to boot.

Couldn't happen in Cincinnati or Columbus?

I could see it happening just about anywhere in the country where the reps were franchise employees and weren't necessarily "bossed" by someone who'd fire them the second they even thought about doing something of the sort.

And I'm sure that Sarah's family and friends in Little Rock are prolly about as understanding and "liberal" on trans-issues as anyone's likely to be.

Sheer effrontry knows no bounds of states and regions, towns, villages, cities or national borders. It tends to be an individual thing. Or, maybe a mob thing.

LOL they do not pay enough to for the employee to even care. I suspect they did not want to be there in the first place. Sure they can get another flunky to replace them of the same caliber. You get what you pay for. Then again the customer could of went to a higher class establishment and paid higher prices to not stand on line.

O, I'll be sure to ask her if she's as wealthy as you are, Lisa! Maybe she should have just had a provate limo servikce drop her at the door and drive her around for her week or so in LR!!
