At the beginning of the month, the Canadian province of Alberta (where I live) cut SRS funding for anyone who has not been approved for it yet. The government says that they can't afford to pay $700 000 each year (about 0.005% of the budget) in this ->-bleeped-<-ty economy.

This, of course, is really depressing. Of course, many taxpayers are glad that this has been done, but the sad part is that not too many people knew that SRS was covered until the recent news, so they are even more angry that they have been helping support a cause they don't believe in.

Canada has legalized gay marriage nationwide a few years ago, and two other provinces have recently added SRS to their budget, so I really thought we were going in the right direction.....

It has really opened up my eyes to what kind of world this is, and I really do need to watch myself, despite all the support I have.

There is an online petition, don't know how much it will help, but here it is
http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/re-list-sex-reassignment-surgery-funding-in-alberta

There is also a Facebook Group called "Reinstate Gender Reassignment Funding in Alberta" with tons of information. Otherwise, I'm sure you can google it, as it has been all over the news in my area for the last few days.

Thanks for listening,

Chrissi

Write to your provincial representative about this. Politicians don't care about Facebook groups or online petitions.

 >:( We in NZ have had the same thing on SRS funding over the last few years. They feel it is not necessary to find it .As they only did 2 M t F and one FtM per year. They felt the money can be better spent on other things ( like what ) So the funding for GRS in NZ has come to an end at the moment .
