Jury members in the Allen Andrade murder trial walked out of a packed courtroom Wednesday as one lone person in the gallery gave them a rousing thumbs up.

"Thank you," Susan Matthews of Denver mouthed as they walked out, her thumb high in the air.

Allen Andrade was going away for the rest of his life, and several members of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community were taking a new message home.

"I feel a lot safer," said Sheri Proctor of Boulder, who left Greeley as Don Proctor in 1978. "This is hard for me because I love humanity, but we got a monster off the street for good. This is why we need national legislation."
