White House issues new language on "Don't Ask Don't Tell" policy

Policy change, or poor editing?

In a move that many people I've spoken with see as a shift in policy, and a backward step from a clear campaign promise that was reiterated during the first days of January of this year, the White House has changed the language on its "Civil Rights" page, as it concerns gay civil rights. The changes were first noted yesterday by gay blogger JoeMyGod. And while most of the deletions noted yesterday have since been un-deleted, the new language on President Obama's commitment to repeal the Don't Ask Don't Tell policy appears to indicate a significant change in policy, for the worse.

Prior to yesterday, approximately one half of the White House Web site's Civil Rights page was devoted to gay civil rights. It specifically included 8 promises:

So no more mention of repealing DOMA, no repeal DADT, no adoption?  Where are the real progressives in politics?

Keep in mind that one of the few remaining promises ("the constitutional amendment") is pointless for two reasons:

1) It doesn't change the fact there is no legal recognition; it just means they aren't being as much of jerks by making it harder to repeal later on.  And yes, there will eventually be consensus to repeal it.

2) The President has no power whatsoever regarding constitutional amendments.

Remember how the civil rights agenda page of the White House website had a huge section on LGBT equality? Well, his Civil Rights Agenda page has been changed.

Gone is the large LGBT section, and it's been replaced by this:

President Obama also continues to support the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and believes that our anti-discrimination employment laws should be expanded to include sexual orientation and gender identity. He supports full civil unions and federal rights for LGBT couples and opposes a constitutional ban on same-sex marriage. He supports changing Don't Ask Don't Tell in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security, and also believes that we must ensure adoption rights for all couples and individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation.[...]
