Not really.  Most of us started out doing it for 'ten dollars and a t-shirt' and sleeping in our cars. 

I've worked in jobs like that where you cover for everyone who just blows off the job, then you ask for time off well in advance and it's a no go. 

That's where I learned the technique of not asking for time off. Me: I'm not going to be available at this time. Boss: But we need you to work then. Me: Too bad cause I won't be here.

ok, when you first started it may have been a little different but now the t-shirt is worth more than the ten bux, sleeping in your car sux no matter how much money you have. i've been there too, and am about there again. and i've definitely put in my 16-20 hour days too, i may not be as old as you, and you think i may be in good enuff health to do it, and not once did i ever complain to management about it, i even put up with the crap at my current job, but the one girl in my dept. couldn't put up with it and left. i don't blame her as she is twice my age, but it still doesn't make it right. teamwork means a whole different thing today than it did 20-30 years ago in some businesses.

I used to love work for the challenge, but then I saw that no matter how hard I tried, I was the ONLY one there who was there for more than just a paycheck.

That's when I got jaded.

That's why I'm switching pharmacies.  Again.

i remember one time going to work with the biggest hangover ever. I bribed my boss with a maccy d's and he let me go home

While not so much about getting off work, but excuses for coming in late...

While in the military we had one, and only one valid excuse for being late.
Car wreck, nope, didn't matter if they saw the car.
Slept in, too bad.
Sick, sorry.

Nope, the one excuse was getting some. It got you out of any trouble.
