What sort of psychological bent would lead people to want to be part of a dead-end political party like the GOP?
Clearly, fear--stirring it as well as succumbing to it--is central to such a psyche, and Republicans are swinging that big spiked mace as wildly as if it were the night before a bitterly contested election. This Web ad that came out last week isn't from Michael Savage or Glenn Beck (more from them later) but from House minority leader John Boehner and intel committee ranking Republican Pete Hoekstra.

I like it when they decide to come up with a new rebranding effort by using all the old Dinosaurs who looked about as natural in a mall pizza parlor as they would have doing a real job.

In the meantime, sites like FreeRepublic have a circular firing squad going on.

And Sara Palin, as I said in the beginning, the gift that keeps on giving.

OK, the idea of a circular firing squad among that group is very felicitous. Question is, can any of them shoot straight enough to actually do damage to one another? :)

Well, if we know anything about these folks, it's that they are good with guns.  But the 'high-fiving' over Arlen Specter's leaving, and hoping the two ladies from Maine leave the party too, well, that's funny to watch.

I just hope the Dem's run a real dem in the primary against Specter, because the 'Pubs are set to run a real nutcase and it would be nice to have that seat fall into demo hands.

I couldn't agree more with you. living here makes that seem important to me I suppose. And James Carville and Howard Dean agree with you as well. What's the point having a Republican stooge in office under the name "Democrat" when he's already maintained that his voting record will remain unchanged in any fashion except he might vote for Obama's health care plan provided that there's no option for national health coverage to get in the way of insurance company coverage.

Now wtf is that all about? He's pretty basically same ole Specter. Besides, he's 79 and on his final legs already. If he should win and serve his entire term we're looking at 8 more years of him. Good grief!

And, its not like its a revolving door, oh, wait it is.  Old Arlen had been a demo before he switched to run for DA of Philly I think, now he's turning again.  Retire already.

Disclaimer - I've hated him since reading the Warren Commission Report and the single bullet theory, so I'm not a newcomer to the dump Arlen movement.

If Arlen came up in Philly politics in the past 80 years, you've got to figure he came through the Democratic Party. Of course with Frank Rizzo and Ed Rendell and others there it's not the hotbed of "radical democrats" one might expect. :)
