Gender Neutralized: Be Like Others

It undoubtedly would come as a surprise to most American audiences that sexual reassignment surgeries are not only legal in Iran but also provided free of charge to anyone who seeks them. This is the focus of Iranian-born, American filmmaker Tanaz Eshaghian's documentary Be Like Others, an intimate examination of the intersection of state power, science and religion, gender and sexuality.

Quotespeak highly of the procedure as the only option for Iranians who have homosexual desires.

While not totally true, with the exception of it being Iran, why can America to that.  ???  It makes sense, it is not a desired thing for Pre-Ops?

The news here being? That in a totalitarian state one does what the state wishes one to do or else?

Why I'm sure the trans population in Iran could rather easily be used to support some statistical rendition of Blanchard's thesis about "hyper-homosexuals" being "classic" MTF transsexuals. :) Of course to not be one would mean death to the person, either as a male or female homosexual!!

Ah, Blanchard and Zucker should be working there! :) O, no, just Blanchard, in fact. If Zucker worked there he'd be trying to get all MTF transsexuals to become homosexual instead, and thus they'd be executed!!

O, what tangled webs we weave when first we practice to believe in ANY sort of religious orthodoxy whether it be openly religious or simply secularly religious. Procrustean Beds are not very comfortable!

Thank you. :)  Both of you, Syne and Janet.

It hadn't dawned on me that that was all that grand a reply.

I didn't know this but not surprised.... during slavery, black-Iraqis were allowed to own property while the slaves here couldn't. USA more behind in "equality" issues than they want the world to know.
