ok, i'm really sick of the one associate telling other people he gets phone calls asking if i'm there and if i am they won't come for service. i'm also sick and tired of him telling other people that i'm the reason, i've lost a lot of our business. my assistant manager seems to think it's ok for him to blab my history saying s[he] used to be so and so and just tells whoever he feels like, but also turns around and tells other i have just as much right to be there as anyone else. those reasons are why i'm afraid half the time to go up front and run register when they want, cuz i don't want to frighten away business in the entire store. i mean after all i can take on a whole few hundred people at a time right and eat all their children too?? PUH-LEASE!!! i may be a warrior princess, but that's pushing it to the extreme.

which leads me to tonight, two of the guys in hardware just don't seem to get it with pronouns or anything. a whole family was standing behind the counter wanting to know what to do with a battery when i came back to get my coat and keys, and the words came out of his mouth: "well, we'll ask this gentleman what he thinks we should do with it.." the girls that were with their father looked me up and down and didn't say a damned thing as i gave the old man the dirtiest look i could give anyone, boy did i want to knock him through the glass tle doors. if i didn't have control over my actions, it would have happened.

then in another post i wrote about a certificate they want to hang on the wall, and just as i said, since Brittiney lost a very important card, the guy that found came back and asked for me by my OLD name and used masculine pronouns, when i corrected, he started asking all kinds of questions.

damn i wish i could find myself another job, where i can just be me.

sorry but i had to bitch to somebody cuz i don't know who to bitch to about the guys in hardware yet.

another employee said that or the customer/

"well, we'll ask this gentleman what he thinks we should do with it.."

It seems to me that others would be saying similar if people were calling and asking.

Not to mention, do you really have that much constant repeat customers that they woudl remember the names of people working there enough to call ahead and check?

He may be saying you have every right to be there, but he is looking to get you fired. I would make sure yoru manager understands what is going on and that he is being a troublemaker.

Nero, the associate said that statement.

and Leslie, the manager that is kind of two faced, is female, and doesn't have a lot of tolerance for other females, we think it's becuase she's the only female manager in the store and is afraid one of us is after who job so she has to make up for it by being masculine.

a side note, Leslie Anne is the new associate I work with and she seems very nice. so you two at least have your name in common..lol.

Don't let other people's bigotry or dull wit get to you so much.  It's just a job, if it were any fun then more people would have jobs.

I don't see why you don't go to corporate, this is a pretty major case.  All it takes is writing out a letter and sending it to a lot of people, and making a few phone calls.
When I did that, I wound up getting promoted to the position of the person I just got fired.

Not saying it'll happen to you but, it's the least they could do to prevent a severe human resources case.

Last time I dealt with Wally world on this issue the Boots were still running the show. Since the Suits won the war, you might be able to get something done. Just try to read up on relevant local laws (county, state, district) and whatever may have been added to the employee handbook and whatever diversity statement they may have in effect.

How was your transition handled at the store? Go back and review anything that you actually managed to get in writing.

Perhaps a quiet word with the boss is in order.  Something along the lines of "All I want is to do my job and be treated as nothing more or less than a co-worker.  I'd like you to ensure this happens, as it would be really unfortunate for this to escalate into a formal discrimination case. You may want to familiarize yourself with your legal obligations as an employer - for starters that it is you, not the company, that is liable if I sue.  Think about that, hmm?"

I appreciate that you may not want to risk making the atmosphere worse but you may want to consider a gentle shot across the bows...but be prepared to take a stand if they call your bluff, as you won't be bluffing - if you're in the US (I'm guessing you are) then the law IS on your side.

No real protections at the fed level and it is patchwork for the rest of the country. Where I live and work I can be fired just for being T and they can tell me that because I would have no recourse.

Wally world is anything but lgbt friendly.

It doesn't have to be an LGBT thing. This is sexual harassment, and laws against it protect everyone. It might not be an easy case to make, but there is a case there.

In the absence of any state or local regulations or laws it would be a hard case to make.

Smith v. Salem has made it easier (though still not easy). We'll see if it's upheld by the Supreme Court. I'm not holding my breath.

for the moment, i have let it go. i have more pressing matters to take care of, but that doesn't mean i've forgotten about it. he's the one that looks and sounds like a total idiot. but i have some ideas in my mind now, if him and the others in hardware want to keep up their stupid crap.

thanks for all your replies and support.
